It is interesting that you mention roaming overseas. My parents went on a trip to Europe last month and called me to ask about taking a phone with them (my step mother is a Lutheran pastor). Even though I odviously know a bit about the industry from following this forum and being in the industry for a while I almost fell out of my chair when they asked. My simple answer was "you have no prayer of getting service in the states and having it roam effectively over seas."
