So Much for the iMac not Supporting 21" Monitors!

For what it's worth, it looks like Apple has plans to sell the iMac as a Cheap Graphics Workstation.

From MacOSRumors

"Yet another iMac "gotcha"

"Mike and Mike" had this tidbit to share about the clear extensibility of the iMac's internal monitor port: If you open the iMac casing using the single screw in the center, lower rear of the iMac case, you will notice that the motherboard is attached to the outside world with 4 connectors, 2 "standard" and 2 "non-standard". The 2 standard ports are a 9-pin mini-DIN (connecting to the IR) and a 15-pin D-shell.

While so far, we have not risked playing with the serial-esque port, the monitor-esque port is so monitor-esque that it works with _any_ monitor. Currently, my cohort is playing Nanosaur on his Apple 21" monitor using this elusive "internal but external monitor port."

6MB SGRAM + iMac + old 21" monitor = G3 graphics workstation... For little bucks.

So much for the iMac not supporting larger monitors. :)
