"We've got to do something about it," said MacDougall. "It's our shareholders' money,
so it's our responsibility to find out as much as we can about what's gone on."

Shouldn't they find out what's going on before they invest millions of dollars of their client's money?

The Financial Post reports in its Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, edition that attempts at making a deal between powerful institutional investors and YBM Magnex International fell apart yesterday, amid warnings shareholders are looking at installing a monitor or receiver inside the company to prevent any troubling new transactions. The Post's Sandra Rubin writes that shareholders, led by Vancouver based Connor Clark & Lunn Investment Management have notified YBM they'll call a special shareholders meeting to remove the board of directors if YBM doesn't call one by next week. The two sides have tried to work out a friendly arrangement but kept clashing over a number of issues, including how soon a meeting must be held. Shareholder adviser Wesley Voorheis says YBM doesn't want to do a deal because it doesn't want anyone inside, so they can be in control for as long as possible. Mr. Voorheis says institutional investors, who own about 50 per cent, are determined to wrest control and install their own slate of directors when a meeting is finally held.
