David,

Thank you for your informative post.

Now, here is a sample of the kind of nonsense that happens all too often over on the yahoo threads -

"The kind of company that posts news releases from 2 months ago, is a company that has nothing going for it.

Talk to the Identix users and you will find their service and support sucks.

Fowler and band of thieves are on a short rope and they are about to hang themselves with poor support and screwing every business relationship they have.

They should spend more money on product development and maybe they could provide their users with something other than Pentium 133 processors and OS/2 operating systems.

They been talking about moving to Windows NT for over a year. This company is going to dissappear with some of the newer technology in the Biometric marketplace."

Here we have someone who spouts off a lot of stuff with no supporting evidence of any kind and most of his statements could be refuted with little effort. For instance, his charge that IDX is "screwing every business relationship they have" is just plain false. In the last year IDX has strengthened their relationships with both NEC and Morpho. And what about the announcement just yesterday that the NYPD ordered additional TP-600's and earlier the same with California Department of Social Services and the same with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification? All of these announcements have been made this year.

As for "they should spend more money on product development" I refer to the year end earnings report from July 28. Although I don't know what the breakdown of IDX's research projects is, they do report that for 1997 they spent $2,754,000 on R&D and in 1998 they spent $4,572,000, a difference of 66%.

And the other junk this guy spouts off is just that - JUNK!

So David, I thank you once again for your informative post. It is this kind of work which makes this a great thread. In this kind of market environment when it is so easy to make rash decisions based only on fear or greed, getting good information is a must if we are to win the investing game.
