I would like to know if this "rough ride describes ATMEL per say or refers to the semi's in general". If there is any truth to the Sony contract and the job recruiting in Colorado Springs as cited on Yahoo by people claiming to be employees then this week old report may be wrong. Remember it was released on the 21st to the general public and probably written much earlier.

<<I've never seen a stock go to zero, but Atmel may be my first time. It looks to me like nobody wants this stock at any price right now, Gilder recommendation or not. ..... This stock is in complete collapse.>>

Len: You nailed it with "complete collapse"; 10% down through new multi-year low on ~ 2 X avg. daily vol. Whew!

I've seen this happen a couple of times before and it was always very ugly. What scares the daylights out of me in these types of situations that I've seen before is that there was always some major, negative information that was known only to those tight to the info that came out at the bottom (I'm absolutely not saying that this is the case w/ATML; might be, might not be). In the meantime, the "everyday" holders were in a state of shell-shock, mouths agape, dumbfounded. Most (not all) of the stocks eventually came back but it was an arduous and very long trip back.

No, I'm not short (or long). I used to have a nice chunk of ATML and think they've got a great future. But ....., whew!!!

Good luck to all.
