Ken,

This is one of those press releases that I'm not overly pleased with. The CEO's repeated use of the term "multi-pointcode" threw me.

A point code [not to be confused with a telephone number or a global title] is a unique identifier of a network element in an SS7 network and is very similar to a TCP/IP address on the open Internet.

From "Signaling System #7" by Travis Russell:

"Signalling System 7 differs from this in that all addressing is located in the network layer. Addressing of the node, the network, and even a group of signalling points within a regional area are all accomplished with what is called a point code. The point code uniquely identifies all entities in the ANSI SS7 Network."

Travis Russell, incidentally, was one of the first to put this esoteric animal in readable format in the way of a text. (472 pages) published by McGraw Hill, ISBN 0 - 07 - 054991 - 5

Russell was also employed by no other than Tekelec at one time.

OK, nothing new there, so I went to my favorite search engines and usenet sites, and searched "multi-pointcode." In all, I received one hit, and that was to the press release you posted.

Having said all of this, I can only speculate what they mean by multi-pointcode. If anyone here knows, please offer it up.

Have I sednuf...? I don't like that press release.

HTH, and Regards, Frank C.
