Mr. Green Jeans:

1. "Hey, the fact is many people own Utek because of his recommendation. The fact also is, I suspect, that it is only a small portion of the investing population."

As of March 3, 1997, UTEK had 13,500 shareholders. Brinker issues his UTEK buy in July, 1997. As of March 10, 1998, UTEK has 36,300 shareholders. Source: Annual reports. There is plenty of other evidence as I have posted previously but I do not get paid enough to go through it all over again. So do your own research and draw your own conclusions. BTW, there are only between 100 and 200 institutions that own UTEK depending on the source.

2. "I have absolutely no support for this assertion but I surmise that institutional investors and mutual funds buy and sell more Utek in one transaction than all small investors hold combined."

You must be kidding. You are really too smart for this exercise and it really a waste of time for me. But here it goes. You can do the math. Use whatever individual holding number you chose, multiply it by the outstanding shares of 20.889m. Say you come up with 7m plus shares. Now go look at the average volume for the past month. You will see that the average trading volume does not exceed 7m plus shares. In fact, it is more like 100 - 200 thousand shares. So even if we assume that all transactions in a day are institutional, they do not exceed the holdings of all the small investors combined as they have never exceeded 7m shares. In fact, volume in excess of 1.0m in these shares are a rare event. So it is almost impossible for institutional investors and mutual funds to do in one transaction what all individuals hold combined.
