I personally do not believe the risk/reward ratio is
particularly appealing at this point ...
Not that you will not make a profit holding a couple of years,
but you definitely will be better off buying in the low 20s ...

Brian,

From Steve Taylor, an Applied spokesman,... "We've indicated that we don't know how long it will last and we're not sure if we've hit the bottom as far as the fall," " We're going to have knuckle down for the next couple of quarters." Austin American Statesman 8-26-98

>> When the upturn begins, AMAT will have the broadest line of
low-k, copper tools of anyone on the block, along with additional market share in
every category. <<

This statement is simply not true. Novellus at this moment has a broader line of announced copper deposition tools than AMAT does. Many of the low-k materials being contemplated are spin-on polymers and AMAT has no announced entries in the spin-on coating market that I'm aware of.

Yes, AMAT is a gorilla. Even gorillas are mortal. Blind faith is hazardous to your wallet.

"And KIM that AMAT is still making $$ on an operating basis, something no other front end company can lay claim to."

Not true. Both KLAC and NVLS can make this claim.
