Doc,

BTAB was supporting DRIV today, holding up the 8 1/2 bid despite sellers whacking it relentlessly most of day. This action alone doesn't always suggest an upward movement for the stock in the ensuing days. A few days ago, NB Monty, the lead underwriter for TFSM, was supporting the stock, picking up all the shares dumped at 14. They were able to generate a little upward movement shortly after for a little while, but was unable to absorb all the massive selling that continued. Today, TFSM closed at 11 1/16.

Depending on the arrangements, the lead underwriter sometimes will support an IPO at certain key price level, but mostly only to the extent of demonstrating sufficient good faith. GSCO tried and failed with ENTU though it was able to support GCTY at 32 and then at 30, for instances.
