I'd like to see any evidence that Ho would have abandoned a movement to which he had devoted the previous 25 years of his life. His willingness to accept American aid appears to have been just that, a willingness to accept aid. Ho's subsequent career provides no indication that he had ever changed his allegiance by taking the assistance we offered. Patti's contention that Ho's Communist Party would have become "just another party" is short of any real world example where this ever happened. Oddly enough, Communist parties worldwide adhered to their ideology and didn't hold free elections. Imagine that.
