That should be a concern - Dell management needs to be very clear in communicating their share and sales positions, and in managing analyst expectations around the issue of reported share. Even if Dell continues to gain and CPQ just does OK, the reported numbers from IDC and Dataquest will show a huge shift in share position in favor of CPQ, simply because the 1Q and 2Q numbers were artificially depressed by the channel inventory being cleared. As someone who holds both stocks, I hope they take it out on IBM and HP instead...
