- New 16MB Board Turns the PC Into a Graphics and Multimedia Powerhouse - Advanced 3D Architecture Provides Industry-Leading 3D Acceleration - Integrated DVD Eliminates the Need for a Costly DVD Decoder Card
TORONTO, Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- ATI Technologies Inc. (Toronto: ATY - news) today announced its latest 3D and DVD accelerator board -- the XPERT(TM) 128. One of the most comprehensive graphics solutions available for PCs, the XPERT 128 board offers advanced 2D and 3D acceleration with the highest quality DVD playback. Designed to increase application performance for both graphic intensive and everyday applications, the XPERT 128 board's advanced 128-bit architecture, full AGP 2X support, and extensive 3D feature set deliver industry-leading graphics power for next-generation applications.
Fully compatible with applications supporting OpenGL or DirectX 6.0, the XPERT 128 board accelerates all 3D applications from computer-aided design (CAD) to the latest gaming titles. Providing an integrated DVD decoder for full-screen DVD video playback, the XPERT 128 board displays interactive DVD applications and movies, eliminating the need to purchase a costly DVD decoder board.
''The XPERT 128 board offers everything that consumers have been demanding for their home or small-office PCs,'' said Ed Grondahl, vice- president of product marketing, ATI. ''Whether you are running a high-end 3D application, producing a budget, playing one of the latest 3D games or watching a DVD title, you have your bases covered by adding the XPERT 128 board to your PC.''
Powered by ATI's RAGE 128 GL Graphics Chip for Best Application Performance Developed to maximize the visual experience and performance of
leading-edge applications, the XPERT 128 board uses ATI's next-generation RAGE 128 GL graphics chip to produce outstanding visual quality at high performance levels. Engineered with an advanced 3D engine and an 128-bit architecture, the RAGE 128 GL produces fast 3D application performance made possible by a SuperScalar Rendering (SSR) engine. The SSR engine can process multiple pixels per clock cycle, the best acceleration option for the newest, massive-texture games. Other 3D architectural features include a Twin-Cache Architecture including on-chip texture and pixel caches, a 8-bit stencil buffer, a 32-bpp renderer for full accuracy 3D rendering, a deep 32-bit Z-buffer, and high-quality alpha and fog effects.
Optimized for DirectX 6.0 and OpenGL for High Performance 3D Acceleration
Bringing a new level of 3D realism to the PC, the XPERT 128 board brings to the desktop PC the 3D performance and features once available only on workstations. Supporting DirectX 6.0 and a fully installable client driver for OpenGL, the XPERT 128 board provides industry-leading 3D acceleration from professional 3D design and web creation to interactive gaming.
Integrated DVD Decoder Enables Interactive DVD Applications
Producing the highest quality DVD images at full-screen playback, the XPERT 128 board has an integrated DVD decoder that processes the intensive DVD information and leaves the processor free to perform other important tasks. This processor headroom makes the XPERT 128 board the ideal solution for running interactive DVD applications and watching DVD movies.
Industry-Leading 2D Performance for Faster Windows(TM) Applications
Enabling enhanced Windows acceleration at high resolutions and color depths, the XPERT 128 fully supports the graphics features of Windows 98 including enhanced driver support, multiple monitor support, color management, and DVD playback. Equipped with a 250MHz DAC and 16MB of graphics memory for increased application performance, the XPERT 128 board can reach resolutions up to 1920x1600 for finely detailed images and large monitor support.
Optimized for the Full AGP 2X Specification
Supporting the full AGP 2X specification, the XPERT 128 board increases the amount of graphics memory available by storing graphics information in system memory in addition to local graphics memory. Enabling Bi-directional Direct Memory Execution (DME) to increase the performance across the AGP bus, the XPERT 128 board fully maximizes AGP resulting in improved performance for all 2D, 3D and DVD applications.
Pricing and Availability
The XPERT 128 AGP board comes in 16MB memory configuration with a suggested retail price of $199 (US). Shipping date is October, 1998. Drivers will be available for all leading operating systems, including Windows 98, Windows 95, and Windows NT. 3D API support includes DirectX, OpenGL, QuickDraw 3D and others.
