Peter,
<<I thought you might like to know that the New York Times printed a story today about the opposition leader (is it Lim?) being jailed for criticizing the judiciary for not prosecuting the majority party leader (whose name I can't remember) for having sex with a 15 year old girl.>>

Now you have your eye on the true prize here IMO. The story of Lim Guan Eng is truly remarkable. He criticized the judiciary for not prosecuting a ruling party State leader who had evidence against him of committing statutory rape. At the time of the incident the 15 year old girl was held by the police instead of the Menteri Besar (equivalent to a governor so to speak). Now, to add even more injustice Lim must go to jail for 18 months for his criticism. A similar thing happened in Singapore a couple of years ago. These are fledgling "democracies" indeed. Dangerous to an extreme. But they are not Maoist either. Nor are they colonies anymore. Such is the way of the world. Invest here? I think mostly we must invest our ideas. We most do so in a reasonable time frame but with firm resolve. Too hard and too fast will cost us dearly. Someday, stories like Lim's may be in the past. I hope and pray.

Best,
Stitch
