I was probably one of the very few SI buyers of CSCO at the time, you won't believe the grief I received from the thread. However, the investment I made on that occasion has almost tripled in a year.

Yes, I remember those times! I was also faithful to CSCO, pouring the rest of my cash into it then. Of course, that is in the middle of the school year, so I had close to nothing, but it is the thought that counts, right ;o) ?? Unfortunately, I wasn't as religious to SI then as I am now!!

Ibexx, I was another one of those and CSCO has done so well that I could care less if it tanks again now. That would only mean we buy more! :)

Ibexx:

That was Spring of 1997. I was new to the market and naive. I recall on CNBC, the guest predicted the stock will be in $15 range. The stock was around 40's at the time.
Another Tech stock that I like is EMC. It has hold up very well so far.

market like this not for wimps

How right you are.
It was spring of 1997. I had my first tech stock, USRobotics, bought at 72. It went to 45!!!!! I was terrified. The people on the USRX thread were wonderful and talked me through it, in fact at 55 I even bought more (and sold nothing, thanks to S.I.!) I eventually sold usrx at a nice profit when it became coms and of course now I own csco, a much better company and much much much better stock, performance-wise. I wish everyone well who is new to this market and frightened.

"If you recall spring of 1997 (or was it 1996?), all networkers tanked 30-50% in a matter of days--and I call that tough!"

In March 1994, after CSCO split 2:1 and hit a new high of 40.375, the price deteriorated to 19.625 in July. CSCO made this journey alone, as other tech stocks held up fairly well. Today's action was just a little swimming with the current and nothing to worry about. PW.

P.S. CSCO split 2:1 and 3:2 since the summer of 1994.
