Email from Newmont-what they have to say about acquisitions:

My questions to Newmont:

I have a few questions:
1) Is Newmont actively seeking acquistions: ie especially in light of
low = gold prices/stock prices?
2)If so, might this happen in the short term? I am concerned of dilutive
= effects that an acquistion would have on the current share price.
3)Wall Street Journal reported that Newmont is interested in Golden
Eagle = International-is this true? Or is Newmont seeking other targets
in South = America? Thanks in advance to responding to my questions:

Newmont's Response

Mr. Kovalchick
Many thanks for your inuiry re Newmont Stock. I am Newmont's VP for
Corporate Development. In response to your questions:
1) Newmont reviews a significant number of potential acquisition or
merger opportunities as a regular feature of our corporate development
function whith the goal of focusing only on those opportunities which
are consistant with our internal strenghts and capabilities and which
are accretive to shareholder worth. There are certainly many potential
deals in the market to consider in light of the current gold price, but
this is certainly an environment for caution as well.
2)We don't comment on what deals we might/might not be working on. We
are certainly focused on avoiding deals which might be dilutive to our
shareholders.
3)As i said above, we can't comment on market rumors about individual
companies, but we have said on many occasions that South America remains
an important focus for our future growth.
Many thnks for your inquiry.
