< Dell? Surely not a "flight to quality" > freight train to quality?

The big story was Dell Computer (DELL) as stock jumped 4 5/8 to set a
new all-time high... Investors can't get enough of this high-flyer ahead
of its split... Company's history of dynamic earnings growth and
incredible price persistence also very attractive attributes in today's
volatile market... But we found it interesting to hear reports that
stock rose yesterday on expectations of strong international sales...
Given current global conditions this sounds like a reach to us... That's
not to say that Dell won't be able to successful bring its
build-to-order model to other markets throughout the world, it's just
that current situations being what they are, Dell is unlikely to
experience much success on this front over the next 6 to 12 months... In
fact, if global unrest erodes domestic confidence, hoped for US demand
might not exist... Betting against Dell has been a losing game and we
don't advise doing so now... But we wouldn't commit new money at current
levels.
