Here's the positive side I see in their press release - 2 points:
1) "the two companies will share resources to support the deployment of their integrated technologies into rapidly expanding video based markets and organizations interested in deploying advanced multimedia applications to improve organizational communications, collaboration and productivity". Sounds like Thomson realizes they'll have to supply some funding.

2) "Thomson seeks out and develops strategic partnerships with companies like InnovaCom that have strong technology, marketing and management abilities," remarks Dave Weisman, Thomson's Vice-President of Sales and Marketing. According to this, Thomson sought out InnovaCom and not vice versa. They do have interesting technology.

Thomson is a big multi-billion dollar company. That they would take the time to release a statement at all is very good.
