Trimble has a very strong patent portfolio in RTK surveying, Multipath rejection and GPS antenna technology and trade secrets in the computational algorithms area. These have helped Trimble maintain a dominant position in survey. My guess is they have taken the position that there is no point in going after infringers until they start encroaching on their dominance. Most of the R&D and product development lately has been in the mining construction agri timing oem and avionics businesses. These products are just beginning to make their way into the market. Trimble has more than recouped it's initial investments in the first and second generation RTK in 1994 thru 1996 with 90%+ gross margins.
