Attention all Florida Dellheads: Meeting on Tuesday night, September 1

We Dellheads are meeting for fun and frolic on Tuesday, September 1st in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Please post to me privately to learn more details....(Bachman, I should have the location nailed down in the next couple of days!)

You views on Russia mirror mine....As you are probably well aware, Gorbatschov imposed a top-down solution on the Russian people.....things occurred quite differently in the rest of Eastern European (ie., the people, en masse, in most those countries, forced change)...Democracy was not a grass-roots movement in Russia...Rich Russians, in my view, have not been willing to make the sacrifice needed to save their country......The Russians do not have a strong history of a merchant class...even before Communism...so it is not surprising that they are having such enormous difficulty finding their way..Since Russia was (essentially) a barter economy before the events of the last couple days, the (I'll term it over) reaction is a bit much...

I told friends in 1991 that I felt China would possess a strong democracy sooner than Russia would (BTW- ANYONE can have a weak democracy!)........I still feel that way
(China does have a merchant history....and there is populace sentiment for democracy....Hong Kong, and the Southern provinces are leading the transition......it will happen one day....as living standard continue to rise.........). Russia still has a lot of gut-wretching change to go through, IMO.

I predict that China will not devalue, Brazil will not devalue, and the emerging markets will recover in a few months...The U.S. market will recover in the coming days...although new highs may be elusive....Dell should rock...

Some incredible deals in Latin America....if you have the stomach for it....some companies in Brazil trading below book....At 5-6 times earnings.......And these aren't drillers...these are basic companies: Food, Telecom, etc...Venezuela market down 72%, some deals there....
Only for long-term players, though....

Well, enough of my musings....
