NOVELLUS INTERESTED???

There is no secret that Novellus did an audit of SFAM about 6 months ago and was interested in the company at much higher level. Obviously the deal did not happen and at that time IPEC was interested in SFAM and vice versa. I hear that lately Novellus people have been around the SFAM plant and it appears that something is up. If you speak to analyst's they will tell you that they doubt Novellus because they just signed an alliance with IPEC. Keep in mind that this is not a marketing alliance but just a R&D alliance. Now how about this, If your Novellus you go sign an agreement with SFAM's largest competitor and get a grasp on the technology they are working on. You then can still buy SFAM and you can put any technological developments you discover with IPEC to work at SFAM. Or how about doing a three way merger with IPEC and SFAM. Keep in mind that a member of Novelluses board is on the board of SFAM and they could be working on something involving all three companies since they know that AMAT is coming on strong in the CMP business and could only compete with them if they all get together. This is not a rumor I am hearing, only thinking out loud.

Even if it does not happen the company has $11 per share in cash, Someone can basically come in and take them over at $28-30 per share with there own balance sheet.

The Cash, net of any LTD, was $8.87 at last qtr end but the CEO said that cash was going to be depleted over the ensuing few qtrs so that my impression is Cash by mid 99 might be down to $5-5.50ish---see the company's comments with their last eps release. My2c
