Hi all.. So sorry I've been missing in action. I was trying to get my laptop internet friendly so I could be online for the next 10 days whilst I away... However, I have failed. See (you get to hear my sob story) I, as you all are painfully aware by now, own a mac. Well, some very kind and generous soul gave me another mac an old laptop 280c with 7.5.1 operating software. Can't load internet software on 7.5.1. So, I called Apple. If you own a mac...don't call Apple. If you have a problem with your mac...don't call Apple just throw the computer away and start over. Calling Apple helps you none. They know nothing. I'm an optimist so I called but... I digress. After going through 27 phone numbers (at Apple of whom I suggest you don't call) and a multiple of peoples (who work at Apple and don't really want you to call them)..I finally got someone to tell me that there was an upgrade to 7.5.5 and this would cure all my woes. Or at least the woes created by said laptop. They shipped the software in record time so while I suggest you don't ever call Apple, you can let them ship you software. Anyway. I installed the software which went along brilliantly - 47 disks later. I then with a sheepish grin uponst my face, proceeded to install the internet software. "Beep"..This software requires you have Open transport 1.1.1 installed in your system..Which you DON"T!! ppbbbtthhhh.." %&$&^&##!!!! So, I call Apple which I suggest you not do but I had to because at this point it was like a bad movie. You keep watching it because it just COULDN"T get any worse. Which it then, always does. Digressing again. They have no clue. Tell me now I have to upgrade to 7.6 which will cost another amount close to the National Dept in 1985... All the operator at Apple heard was a pitter pat of running feat and then a loud "AHYUP.." followed by the crash of the phone hanging up. click* &$&@^#&^#!!! So I, being the internet wiz bang (with the exception of loading the damn stuff) went to their site and found the 1.1.1 and downloaded it. Are you all still with me here 'cause I'm not writing this for my health your realize...sheesh. I went to load it but NOOOOOO. You have to have disk copy to copy onto disks and then load it. %$&^%!! I have to add that this whole entire time I'm switching from one machine to another. I have my sickly mac that I can get online and store applications on an external and then I have my laptop. I have to turn one on, download, turn it off, switch cables turn the other on, load, find out what I'm missing, swear, turn it off, switch cables, swear more, find what I need doesn't and never has existed, swear, swear, swear...call Apple. So, where was I?? Oh yes, Disk copy. So add in above paragraph about cable switching get Disk Copy go to laptop. Finally install 1.1.1 and the YES! I can load my internet software. Now, I am not embarrassed to tell you all I almost peed my pants in excitement over this. But, does it work?? NO. Did I call Apple..Oh, Hell no. I called my internet provider who spent 2 hours on the phone with me telling me to buy a PC.. ^&(%&#&^!! I am not internet friendly so I won't be able to talk to you all while I am gone for 10 days. Wizzie who is a much smarter man than I will ever be (for several reasons obviously) owns a PC. Although, he couldn't use his laptop either while on vacation...hmmmm. It's a &%$&* conspiracy. I'm here tonight or at least at this writing. For those who needed info from me, I'll pass what I can to Wiz and have him take over. I'll post something separate about the market. Jan I am (I think)
