Uptick for boxed sales???

I have heard both ways. I bet the law exists, but is never enforced.
I can't even tell my broker I need an uptick when selling the boxed long shares.

I had always assumed I didn't need an uptick to sell the boxed long portion.

But, I can't say for certain that I am correct. I can see both sides of the issue. It certainly would be difficult to enforce the rule. Also, in other rules they tend to focus on the actual stock lot, and not net account position. So, to be consistent I would think it would be the actual lot that was important, and therefore no uptick would be required. But, since when is the government consistent.

Thanks for bringing up the issue, I will have to look into it.

Regards,

Archer
