Gary - I don't think Lucent needs to develop or buy a Cisco or Ascend product - this recent announcement reflects a very interesting approach that makes both moot, since the underlying issue for this application is the SS7 integration; after all, the service providers and phone folk have to charge someone for the access, and neither CSCO nor ASND have the kind of technology to integrate those kinds of pay-based products. I see better and varied opportunities for LU than to try and compete head to head with, or to buy either. My guess, IP on SONET through products like this new announcement, where LEC's and carriers can rake off some revenue rather than just giving away service to ISP's.
