Remember to use "https:", not "http:" when doing this!

I don't recommend editing your HOSTS file. It is way too easy to forget that you've done this, and then you will be scratching your head wondering what happened when Datek changes their IP numbers. (As HAS happened in the past.)

If your ISPs DNS server is unreliable, first I'd consider getting another ISP. :) Then, I'd suggest simply bookmarking URLs using the IP addresses, rather than editing HOSTS. If Datek *does* change their IP numbers, you can still get to the sites by typing them to the location bar, instead of using the bookmarks.

With the HOSTS method, you must edit the HOSTS file and remove the entries before you would be able to access the sites if the addresses were changed.

The "hosts.sam" file needs to be renamed to "hosts" for windows to use this info. There is a program called TweakDUN that will among other things automatically scan your hosts file and update the ips -- it can also import the bookmarks from netscape & IE into the hosts file.

You can also tweak your Dial Up Networking settings for improved performance!!

Thanks Gary,

I didn't have the addresses or the names for the new Express servers. I thought Datek provided the addresses to all the servers somewhere, but I couldn't find them after searching their home page. Now I'll be set in case the one I'm using, which is whatever one Jon's Super Express uses, is malfunctioning.
