Do you not ever sleep?

Or are you on the not so wet west coast where it is still, relatively, early.

My 1M+ number was after incremental costs associated with operating the solution, less the cost reduction from redeployed people and functions eliminated. It didn't take into account the incremental opportunity that redeploying the people presented.

My number is rough -- order of magnitude kinda thing. Many clients are a little sensitive to these things being discussed in public. Even public companies. Certainly private ones.

What was my point? Ah, that DM can be an important, if not mission critical (could the job get done without DM/KM/WM - many cases yes) factor in the bottom line side of things.

A lot of DM solutions only add cost because their contribution due to efficiency is marginal, due to the types of issues/costs you pointed out. But, often such systems are also a preventative measure against unwanted costs / risks, like exposure around environmental / safety.

Point solutions aimed at solving one problem often pass ROI muster.

The strategic fuzzy stuff is potentially more exciting.

Work Management - I use this not quite interchangably with workflow, but thats a longer story.

People Management - the critical piece of the puzzle. Implementing these solutions can be very hard. Point solutions to target audience somewhat easier. Enterprise solutions to a diverse organization - very hard. Plain big solutions to a more or less homogenous organization, such as a legal firm, easier. The more everyone looks alike, the easier it is.

'night.
