Rman, Except for the bumps and bruises...sounds like you had a blast. Glad you're back in 1 piece. I too have had bad experiences with Discover...eg: placed a limit order...canceled it 5 min later...order got filled 1 hr later @ a price that didn't trade til about 45 min after the order was canceled. A day trader friend (who switched from Discover) of mine recommended Brown & Co:

brownco.com

He said it has had no problems with them...fast executions...cheap commissions...etc.

Best of luck, Where'd He Go?

Biotech rally

We will have a spectacular biotech rally in the next few years. It would be nice if we could figure out when the rally will start. It will definitely be later than I expected.

Here is a table of earnings and estimates for a bunch of biotech companies.
AFFX HGSI INCY MLNM ARQL PCOP AGPH ARIA DEPO DURA FUSE GILD GZTC ICOS IMNX ISIP LIPO MEDI SEPR VRTX IDPH LGND CNTO CORR GLFD NRGN ANIK CHAI GENZL GLIA AMGN BCHE BGEN CHIR GENZ

95 96 97 98 99 0 1 Year
-32,84 -21,94 -25,63 -12,395 3,815 29,035 44,429 sum of EPS

It is probably appropriate that biotechs did not do well the last few years. After all they delivered about the same losses every year. This year we are finally seeing rapid earnings growth - unfortunately still from big losses to smaller losses only. Starting next year the biotech industry will deliver real earnings. The 2001 figure is seriously underestimated because I don't have 2001 earnings estimates for many of the companies.

welcome back rman
glad to hear you had a great trip
sorry to hear about the incy losses
and wife's back

i learned last year to never make any stock more than 10% of portfolio
speculative stocks i keep at 5%

this year i have been watching momentum more closely
have mostly been in the internet and blue blood space
thus i am only down about 15% in this correction
but i am again getting back into bios
don't know if this is masochism or what
bought a bunch of anik--feel that it is a great deal at 13
watching sepr and incy for a chance to buy in
