Dear Ron - thx for the links. It is interesting. It is interesting b/c both HKMA and the Quantum Fd mgr are engaging in a war of words as well as $.

Personally, I don't think HK can afford a de-peg now that she has seen what has become of Russia. Indeed, HKMA may be riding on tiger's back, but the alternative is bleaker <jmho>.

D. Tsang has announced trading restrictions on HK stocks and futures.

There was market rumor last night that Chinese funds have quietly arrived, but apparently the Chinese Government has kept a very low profile during the intervention.

My figure of US$18 billion turns-out to be a little more than what's been used thus far by the SAR for market intervention.
