True story here, came from my priest.

My priest had a friend that managed to make it through WWII. He fought over there. Anyway when he got to a concentration camp there was still some people alive. One of them was a priest. I think it was Catholic, I'm not sure. But anyway. Hitler hated most of the people in his area of the world. The soldier asked him why he, of all people a priest, would get sent to a concetration camp. The priest said, "well they started taking off the Jews, and I didn't care and no one else did because we were not Jewish. Then they hauled of the Protestants, and no on cared because we weren't Protestant. Then one day they knocked on my door, and I realized there was no one left to care and save me."
