I don't think we're very far apart here. I was not implying that Clinton was justified in lying by MY standards, only that he may have been able to justify it to himself, and that many people in the general public may be willing to agree with him, primarily as they think he is the person best suited to forward their agenda. Your example of a relief pitcher is a good one, because many people on the Democrat side would prefer a weak Clinton to Gore, considering Clinton, even in his current state, to be more effective.
