Good evening Bob,

I guess my definition of a good decent person is the same as most peoples, with little differences here and there. My point was a person wholived with respect for and of other people, who was able to give and recieve love freely, and had a modicum of compassion and tolerance for others.

As far as not being good and decent until we are saved, I am sorry but I cant go along with that. I do not believe that i am less than good because someone a long time ago may or may not have eaten forbidden fruit. I believe that it s my actions and intentions solely that determine weather I am a decent person. I take full responsibility for my actions and will not assume that someone elses actions make up the "quality' of my nature.

Using my definition of decent, my comment meant that if a person followed the basic tenets of the major religions they would most likely act in accordance with those stated attributes. I leave it up to you for you decide if you feel these people are decent or not. IMO, if someones acts in accordance with those attributes, I will believe they are decent folk.

Weather or not we should be teaching children they are inherently less than good, and are not decent people is another question altogether.
I can only tell you that in my opinion, my children(who are not saved)
are very fine, considerate and decent people. I am very proud of the people that they are and are growing up to be.

Original sin, is one of the hardest points of christianity for non-chrisitians to understand. it is a very difficult concept to believe that you are less than good. we will just have to agree to disagree on this one, my friend.
