1. What would happen to a president of a university, who has the presidential house on campus, that was caught with a female student and then lied about it? 2. What would happen to a policeman or fireman that had sexual relations with a young trainee in the police car/firetruck? 3. What would happen to the principal of a high school who was caught with a young, but adult-aged female? Nothing, if the consenting female was in her 20's and freely admitted no coercion was involved. Happens all the time. The exceptions would be if for some reason the cases recieved a lot of publicity. That can always alter the outcome....if the public outrage becomes too great...or if a no fraternization clause was in the contract....even then it would be ignored, unless someone spilled the beans who had an ax to grind. That's exactly what will happen here, Clinton stays, unless the outrage swells to the point that congress decides the expedient move is removal. The above analogies are really beside the point anyway....Clinton was elected twice....the people are his boss. The other examples you gave ARE relevant....and since the people are the boss it simply depends on the popularity of the individuals. I can easily visualize Reagan getting away with it....Bush and Gingrich less so because their popularity was/is more suspect. What's the point? If the public wants Clinton out congress will force a resignation or impeach him, then try him and find him guilty. So far the people's reaction has been too subdued. That could change when the report is issued...if more issues are involved. The only disagreement on this matter, on this thread, is whether the KNOWN "crimes and misdemeanors" are substantive enough for removal.
