Front office is more complex than many people realize. oracle has been messing with space and losing for some time. not sure that vers does any more than further orcl's trend.

Dont assume that because Oracle cant do anything that Psft or Sap cant. (Not saying you were presuming that, this is just an informational post) Oracle has leaders that never wanted to be in the apps business, its that simple.

I don't know how necessary tight integration with backoffice is as a differentiator

I don't think that SFA-back office integration is important at all. SFA should do two things: 1. increase sales productivity, 2. provide mngt with a real-time, consistent view of all sales opportunities. SFA doesn't need to generate g/l posting, create orders (although I guess that it could), procure materials, pay sales commissions, etc.; therefore does not need to be tightly linked to back office.

From my experience, the two big integration points are customer and product master data. Easy interfaces to build given clean master data.

Perhaps the only ERP-SFA link is in the actual software sales process. I would think that an SAP shop would prefer to buy an SAP-SFA offering.
