Interesting article. Duffield actually not ruling out merging with either VNTV or SEBL. I listened to Ron Codd's interview after the 2nd q release, and at that time he mentioned PSFT was not interested in FOA space as far as mergers are concerned. Maybe ERP software cos. are realizing what smart networking cos. have been doing the past 2 years. Consolidation leads to strong one stop vendors. This makes a lot of sense. A lot more consolidation in this space is very likely. Do you know if ORCL's purchase of VERS will preclude them from more acquisitions in the FOA space? VNTV would have made a lot more sense for ORCL.

Yeah but he also said he was opposed to a merger of equals, with 250MM being a sort of upper limit (RP acquisition). So who knows.

Melissa, yeah Duffield is right on about Ellison here. He just never liked apps, plain and simple. I disagree a little with the "happy customer" comment regarding Larry, I think in the apps area many, many Sap customers are also VERY unhappy - Oracle just got a bad rap on customer satisfaction early on because the customers didnt understand the complexity of what we were trying to achieve. There was no way to please those customers and Psft was not an ERP vendor when Oracle gained that dubious distinction of pushing on their customer base.

He didnt say much about Y2K, thats what Im trying to get a handle on.
