Last weekend I had the chance to update the earnings estimates for the group using First Call mean values for this year and next year earnings. I then calculated a PE ratio for each stock using next years earnings estimate. Then the group was sorted by using the PE ratio. The resulting table is shown below. At the bottom of the table are totals and averages. First of all, the average share price for the 41 stocks is 12.71. Total earnings for all stocks is $4.86 for an average of $0.12 per stock. This gives an average PE ratio of 107. Next years earnings total $24.44 for an average of $0.60 per stock which gives an average PE ratio of 21. Keeping in mind that earnings estimates are constantly being lowered for this year and next year, the group is selling at a relatively "heady" multiple. Doesn't look good for share prices anytime soon.
