Wow. Go away for a few days and all sorts of things happen. It took me more than two hours tonight to catch up on SI, mostly the posts about QCOM. Also, I'm getting really tired of these buying opportunities.

My new employer has given me an Ericsson PD398, which is a dual-mode TDMA/AMPS phone on Comcast's Philadelphia network. (Comcast is a client of ours, so I suppose this is some small quid pro quo.) Unfortunately, it works really well. So far, I have not been able to get it into AMPS mode, and I was able to make clear calls from everywhere except from inside General Instruments' security room, where I was surrounded by a dozen or so computers, multiplexers, etc.

For the first time in ten years of cellular phones, my wife could not tell I was calling her from the car.

Next week, I'll test it from the beach at Cape May, NJ.
