I find myself bewildered by this article, Phil. Fukuda says:

...not everyone who bought a PC can operate it as he or she likes. Many of them had to give it up.

In this sense, Mac was not an exception. Actually, not a few of those who purchased our Performa model failed to manage it, and they have hardly touched it. We believe that has promoted a sense of mistrust among our users, in other words, a fixed idea that they can in no way manage it. And that has created a situation in which PCs have not been selling well in Japan.

We did not want to repeat the debacle with iMac. We want our users to really handle the model as they like. That's why we need to give them apt advice on what they can do with their PC. We also place great importance on our follow-up services to our users. We believe we will make the same mistake again unless we sell iMac at retailers which can realize all of these things.

Well, I had extensive relationships with Japan when I published my software and I had the impression that the Mac was widely used. Fududa suggests the people were unable to use it? Several Mac magazines were supported, many distributors of software were successful, I had a lot of registered users and was in communication all the time with my user base there.

What's the truth?

It seems that now is a good time to get back in. I had taken some profits at 43 and expected AAPL to pull back to something like 37, but I guess that the market drop is responsible for the low stock price.

I believe Apple will rise back to about 37-39 in a hurry before it stablises. It should then start rising as speculation starts building about this quarter's results. I think it will cross 47 before this quarter's results are announced. I expect announcements about good sales in Japan and Europe to start coming in soon.
