Porc: Perhaps there's also measurement bias the other way as well. I've seen research indicating a substantial portion of the small cap universe consists of fallen large caps. Once prosperous companies, that missed the technology turn, were swarmed by competitors, or fell from favor for some other reason. So perhaps while the mid and large cap gets the benefit of the small cap stars rising, perhaps the data is also blighted by the losers and laggards that fall down into it. I have seen no research to support this...just a thought triggered by your discussion of bias.
