Corrections and bear markets in recent years have tended to become compressed in time. A crash like October 1987 can only take place in a world of derivatives and instant communications, and this is even more true today. Unless you think the conditions today are like 1973 or 1929, expect this fire sale to be over before the end of the year. In July to Oct. 1997 we had a correction worse than this one (so far) and everybody has already forgotten about it. We are down 14% on the DJI, and I stick by my prediction that we are at least halfway through. The underlying fundamentals that ignited the secular bull are mostly intact. Time will tell.

Joseph,

You have raised some good points and so has Lucius.

After having invested for over 30 years I've learned that almost anything is possible!
