Caroline, New Eraism, is the belief the irrationally optimistic belief that the good times will roll on for ever and the business cycle has been repealed.

In the late 20's there was lots of new era sentiment. "This is a new era of prosperity, our technological inventions will bring us to new heights of productivity and wealth"

in the 20's they had many great new technologies that people hung there hat on, just like we have now. These new era's cause an irrationally optimistic view of the future and create massive production and overcapacity. That is showing up now in commodity prices. Way too much stuff and way too little money chasing it.

They just opened in my little city a COSTCO right next to a SAM's Club - what are they thinking????. Public funds have been poured into these companies and they are expanding at unbelievable rates and there will not be enough buyers to support this kind of expansion.

When you see Wade Cook's Books -g- and Harry Dent on the Head's book on the best seller list, you are looking a peaking market sentiment.

Sentiment like this is not forward looking, it is telling what has happened in the past.

Other peaking market sentiments.
Historic high consumer confidence.
Peak New Home Starts - on the level with 73.
Historic High Presidential Approval ratings
Peak stock market bullish sentiment
