(OT) Raymond, Thanks for your note. First let's talk about the number of Muslim adherents in the world. Go to the back of the 1998 World Almanac. There you will find a complete breakdown by region and religion, of the world's inhabitants based upon data submitted to the UN by the various countries themselves. The number of followers of Islam worldwide is 1,071,000,000 people out of a total world population of 6,100,000,000 people. There are also 1,995,900,000 Christians, 950,000,000 Buddhists, and about 850,000,000 Hindus. So you're off on your estimate of Muslims worldwide by about 50%. Next you say thousands of Muslims are "slaughtered" in the Middle East. Yet the Middle East is 94% Islamic- who is doing the slaughtering? I myself was recently in two Middle Eastern countries and heard nothing to that efffect. And tonight I met a delegation of Abu Dhabians and Turkmenis (mainly Muslims) for dinner, and asked that question. They were perplexed and did not know what I was talking about. So what is your source? As to Bin Laden, Yemeni bombing suspect Al-Owhali himself has fingered Bin Laden as the mastermind of the attack. Flip over to CNN World News Reports and you can see it for yourself. As to the Sudan, Boy! You have come to the right person! I have been involved in Sudanese affairs for the last few years quite heavily. What do you want to discuss about the Sudan? You are right in saying that there is not one chemical weapons plant in the Sudan- because there is two! The plant near Khartoum and also another plant near Wau in SW Sudan which the Sudan Peoples Liberation Army soldiers put out of commission in heavy fighting around Wau a few months earlier.The reason that the SPLA put the plant near Wau out of commission is that the NIF used chemical weapons against the Africans in the summer of 1997 near Yei. As you are aware in the Sudan an Islamic fundamentalist clique of army soldiers deposed the proper government in a coup in 1989, and since has engaged in systematic murder, torture, gang rape, and slave trading in the Africans in the southern Sudan- yes slave trading by Arab Muslim slave traders right now in 1998. In fact over 1,300,000 Africans have died in the Sudan since 1989 at the hands of the evil National Islamic Front Military Junta- why? Because the Africans did not want to be Muslims, but to be Christians and traditional religion practitioners- what a tremendous sin, right? But don't take my word for it- I noticed that you are a UPenn graduate by your profile. Are you on the East Coast? Would you like to meet me and an SPLA Representative in Washington, DC in the next few weeks and to hear the truth about the Sudan? Then please contact me offline. Perhaps I could also arrange for a Kenyan and Tanzanian Representative to be there too and you could also tell these East Africans what nice guys the Islamic fundamentalists are. Finally I just talked on thursday to my Egyptian Christian friend Hany F. Are you aware that Egypt has a 10% Christian minority? Hany's Dad in fact is a Christian Minister in Cairo. Would you like to hear about the relentless persecution and suffering that the Egyptian Christians receive at the hand of their Arab brother fundamentalists like the recent murders of young Christians in Christian churches by the Muslims? Do you know what the Hamayouni Law of 1856 is? The United States is the greatest Christian Nation on the face of the planet. And I think we've done a good job of following Jesus' mandate to "love your enemies and all people". I see thousands of US soldiers on the ground in Croatia protecting the Muslim minority there- staying far beyond the mandated UN peacekeeping terms in order to keep the peace there. The bottom line is this for everyone out there- be fully aware that 50 years after crushing Nazi Germany another form of Fascism has raised its ugly head in the world- and that form of fascism is Islamic Fundamentalism. And I have no illusions. Thousands may die before this is all over with these fanatics. The first form dressed itself 50 years ago in political trappings- this time around the fascists dress themselves in religious trappings- but the message is the same: "Do what I tell you to do or else I will kill you."
