rudedog, I know that Intel is officially committed to support and produce Alpha on its latest fab processes, as part of the settlement. Of course, when push comes to shove it's hard to see how they could be forced to allocate production time to Alpha, if they ever got to be production bound. On the other hand, it doesn't look like either Alpha or Merced will be going into Pentium-volume production anytime soon.

For others interested in this, somewhat off topic, here's an interesting link on Alpha vs. Merced from Tom's hardware. I can't judge how accurate this is, but Alpha does have a pretty good track record of continual improvement, and Merced has been troubled almost from the start. Really, I'm not making that up.
