Robert: Hmmmmmm.....I can remember having an argument back in early 1991 about my decision to buy this relatively unknown company. The argument went something like this, "WHY would you speculate on THEM??? They don't MAKE anything, they merely REPACKAGE and assemble other peoples products. Can't you see how IBM, Apple, et.al., are gonna eat their LUNCH? Who in their right mind would buy DELL????" HEH!! And I still have those original shares, too. But I will admit that even in my wildest dreams back then I'd of never expected them to soar the way they have. Nor, I think, did anyone else at the time. Hell, I was just hoping for a double. Let's see......it has......eh......split around SIX times since then(the perfect equity to point to when attempting to justify Warren Buffets philosophy). Jeezus, talk about out of control mania!!! Not that I'm complaining. This ain't meant as a pat on the 'ol back. I got lucky with them. I liked their business model and took a chance. That's all. This is what I'm doing with VLNC, too. I like the potential they represent, and correct me if I'm wrong, but NO ONE, no not even the Japanese, have got a plant up and running spitting out product right now, and it's this "window" of opportunity that appeals to me. An old military adage applies here. He who arrives firstest with the mostest WINS!! At least most of the time. They have the R&D completed(or so it seems). They have several lines either up, or shortly to come, and they've plopped their plants strategically, too. Do I expect them to do a DELL-like repeat? Not even in my wildest dreams. Do I expect them to do well if they can survive the R&D stage of their business cycle and not stumble between now and that infamous end of January, 1999 date? Yoooouuuuu betcha!! But unlike the DELL model, let's not forget that this market sector is teeming with vibrant competitors with vision, much coinage, and a perfect willingness to eat their lunch should they so much as slip an inch. And that, my friends, is the nature of the gamble with VLNC. It's time for them to start producing, and this is what I'm holding my breath waiting on. As for the negative commentary. Excepting the demeanor of the providers, I'd have to say their commentary is warranted. It does lend a certain balance to the thread and it certainly keeps us all from getting smug. After all, I can even remember a lot of DELL detractors that weren't easily won over. I expect the same here, too. ;-) Regards! John~
