Point for point, I actually agreed with practically all of the child-rearing advice in Buzz's list. Children should do chores, they should be taught that they aren't the center of the world (at a point, that is - a 2 year old IS the center of the world), etc. It's just when you put them all together, and add the subtleties of language in the presentation, it comes across as a recipe for terrorism.

Discipline is essential, as is teaching responsibility for one's own actions. It is only when these actions are carried out without open, palpable, love that the fearful, stunted, reaction sets in. The line between inspiring love and respect and inspiring fear and resistance is a fine one, and finding it is one of the great challenges of parenthood. I wish I could figure it out.
