Phil: I think we did a good job in localizing. Mine was mostly done by a Japanese physician and Mac writer, whom I met on line! He wrote for one of the Mac magazines, so he did all the work for me anonymously, and as a volunteer. Many of the Japanese people I met were happy to help to localize because they felt it was so important that good software be available there. I used to get copies of the J magazines and I saw that many important software packages had been localized.

But perhaps I saw only a skewed population group of the techies and enthusiasts. Perhaps, as you suggest, there were many who were intimidated, even in Japan, by computer technology and never learned to use the Macs they bought. After all, I only met those who already knew how to use their Macs! So if you and Fukudasan say that people did not use them, I should be paying attention to this information.
