Jon, you are quite right; I stand corrected. HP is the 'old man' of the Valley (along with the old Fairchild). But, both H and P went to Stanford which, along with Cal, seemed to spawn just about every wild eyed entrepreneur for about 10 years or so. Now of course, there's a ton of 'Silicon Valleys' all over the place, and a ton of top flight schools to support them. The point being that the creation of the miracle required infrastructure, in HP's case, Stanford. Plus in those days, you didn't need a hell of alot of dough. HP got started on about $500 if memory serves. Ditto Jobs and Wozniak, who may have had an even thinner bankroll. Regards, Mike Doyle
