Michael, most of the anti-global warming stuff is paid for by lobbying organizations for free enterprise companies like the Petroleum Institute of America. I am pretty much totally unconvinced that there is any good science going on here.

And you still are not understanding the logic of my post, in that I could present eminent scientists with credentials up the ying-yang and they still would not convince you that global warming is real. Why should your scientist's credentials convince me that it is not?

As a small but important example of how fallacious this anti-global warming petition is, I took a look at the list of "scientists" who have weighed in against it. Well, it seems that all SEPP requires to qualify someone as a "scientist" is an undergraduate degree in science. Big deal!!! While there are some PhD's and MD's on the list, many of the "scientists" have no professional degrees at all. The name of one MD who happens to share my maiden name caught my eye, and I did a web search and found out that he is a cardiothoracic surgeon in a southern state. So? Not any RELEVANT science background, obviously just someone with conservative political leanings. There are thousands and thousands of conservative physicians in the United States. Ninety-nine percent of them know absolutely nothing about global warming, and really should not be signing any petitions about it.

Michael -

Re: ten points on global warming

Very interesting article! His position is opposite of that of the media and seems very well reasoned. I'm going to send copies of it to a bunch of my friends.

Michael, that article about the ten things everyone should know about global warming is really an insult to anyone with a brain. For one thing, Singer believes that the stratosphere is cooling, and the study in Nature, which is more recent, posits that it is not. Secondly, the last few years have been the very warmest on record, which does not agree with Singer's statement. Third, the article is published in Capitalism magazine. Hardly an unbiased source, and his statements are not scientific in any way. I am sure I could dispute the other things he writes about, but I have to go shopping now.

You can believe whatever you want to, but my opinion is that all of this is that it is just drivel.
