Yes, he's the one some of the literature searches I did turned up some references with marine biology. This would appear to be the very same GR Pettit.

I was looking in that article for a mention of his many years spent in the Amazon, but I guess I missed it. Oh, well I am sure that the spin masters employed by Mike Sylver will spin this into something yet.
