Tim A,

don't forget this chicken little who had been pounding chest for a while.

engineer,

it is interesting to read the MS opinions which are only 10 days old and see how wrong some of them already proven to be.

One thing to keep in mind is how the glossy magazines (TIME and the other news weeklies being the obvious exceptions) have such long lead times built into the production schedule that 90% of whatever their writers say is already obsolete or irrelevant by the day the magazine hits the mailbox.

Depending on the magazine, the lag can be as little as 30 days but is likely more. Before computers, it was often as much as 60-90 days, sometimes longer. Look around and see how much things have changed in that time period for our little corner of the financial world. No wonder then that the print pundits most always get it wrong.

There was a well respected science fiction writer named Theodore Sturgeon, probably best known for his book MORE THAN HUMAN, who in response to an editor created what is now known as Sturgeon's Law.

The editor said, "Ted, this is s***."

Sturgeon replied, "Yes, but 90% of everything is s***."

Of course, there is also the bit from one of the FIRESIGN THEATRE albums of the very late 1960's, where someone also says, "This is s***." Their response was, "Yes, but it is really good s***." (Actually, they were talking about illegal smokes, but it is all rock and roll.)

Most financial reporting and analysis falls in there somewhere.
