Hello bucky89, call me naive, but with absolutely no indication from the press, analysts, industry, etc., I refuse to believe some Motley poster has true inside info that likely only 2 or 3 three people from each company might be privy to. Lets at least agree the $72 offer was pure fabrication. The rumor was that Mory turned down the $72 offer. If this was the case, then the deal is off and some people involved might feel free to talk about it. I'm not saying whether the rumor is true or not--you're right that I don't know. But I do believe it is at least plausible. Also, given the risk involved to LU shareholders, I think its highly unlikely ASND and LU have even discussed a merger recently. If its gonna happen (which is by no measnd definite), it will play out after 10/1. If LU truly wants ASND, and their hand is forced before then, they will respond quickly. But at this point, they will continue to be patient, assuming they really covet ASND. If LU covets ASND, which we all pretty much agree they do, then LU would be very nervous about rumors that ERICY or anyone else is trying to buy ASND. If I were a LU exec, I'd be putting out feelers to see who Mory is talking to, and how much they're being offered for a buyout price. I would give Mory some hints that he should wait till October 1, 1998 before doing anything.LU, NT, ERICY, NOKA, ALA, and NEC will all be major players, the big-dogs. Don't underestimate NT, they will be very significant. I think it's too soon to say who will survive and who will not in data networking. The companies you list are all diversified and have other successful businesses, but it seriously remains to be seen whether they will have a significant role in tomorrow's data/voice carrier networks. I propose that with the exception of NT, Cisco can knock any of them out of a significant role the data networking market unless they make a major acquisition of a data company. bucky89
