Skippers, Seems like Delta and AMR both down in a very strong market. Dorine Delta Adds Flights to Accommodate Thousands of Northwest Customers September 2, 1998 01:57 PM ATLANTA, Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Delta Air Lines DAL today advised travelers impacted by the work stoppage at Northwest Airlines that Delta plans to operate extra flights to both Detroit and Minneapolis through Friday, September 4, in order to accommodate as many passengers as possible. Since the work stoppage began on August 29, Delta has operated additional flights and larger aircraft to the two Northwest hubs, accommodating more than 3,500 impacted passengers on the extra flights alone. In addition, thousands of other passengers have been accommodated on Delta's regularly scheduled flights wherever possible. From its second largest hub at Cincinnati, Delta has operated three extra flights round-trip daily to Detroit and two extra flights round-trip daily to Minneapolis/St. Paul since August 30. Delta will continue those additional flights through Friday. In addition, Delta has operated larger aircraft to the Northwest hub at Detroit from Delta's Atlanta Worldport as aircraft were available, and will continue this whenever possible throughout this week. For example, on some flights the 252-passenger Boeing 767-300 aircraft has replaced either the 183-passenger Boeing 757 or the 204-passenger Boeing 767-200. Delta does not plan to add flights or larger aircraft to Air Canada destinations during a work stoppage which began at that airline today. Delta expects to be able to accommodate a significant number of passengers impacted by the Air Canada work stoppage on existing Delta flights. Delta urges passengers impacted by the Air Canada or Northwest work stoppage to be flexible in making alternative travel plans. Delta will likely experience very heavy call volumes into its reservation centers and urges customers contacting Delta to call during evenings or very early morning hours if their flight schedules permit, in order to reduce waiting time. To change or make reservations for the 50 U.S. states, call Delta at 1-800-221-1212. For international (including Canada) reservations, call Delta at 800-241-4141. Passengers also may make flight reservations, purchase tickets, and view real-time flight schedules, fares and availability via SkyLinks Reservations Desk -- found at delta-air.com . Delta encourages passengers to use its automated Flight Information line at 1-800-325-1999 if seeking only flight departure and arrival information. Due to recent news media reports which indicate potential flight disruptions at AirTran because of flight attendant walkouts this weekend, Delta reminds travelers that AirTran does not have a ticketing agreement with Delta. This means that Delta cannot accept AirTran tickets for transportation on Delta. Travelers impacted by any disruption of service at AirTran should check with that carrier regarding alternate travel arrangements. SOURCE Delta Air Lines, Inc.
